Alpinestars TechAir10 Airbag

Tech-Air® 10 is the latest innovative autonomous airbag technology to join Alpinestars' Tech-Air® family, which also includes the Tech-Air® Race, Tech-Air® Street and Tech-Air® 5 electronic airbag systems. Derived from Alpinestars' airbag technology adopted by MotoGP riders, Tech-Air® 10 is a sleek, self-contained wearable airbag system that offers racers, track day riders and street riders unrivalled body protection by covering the rider's shoulders, chest, full back and hips.

Tech-Air® 10 can be worn under any Alpinestars Tech-Air® Ready or Tech-Air® Compatible leather suit or any other leather suit that provides 4cm of space around the rider's chest and 2cm of space around the rider's hips. The additional space around the chest and hips is necessary to accommodate the expansion of the airbag in the event of a crash.

Main features:

• A wireless remote control with LED display shows the operating status of the airbag.
• The integrated, certified lithium-ion battery has a running time of 24 hours.
• Developed from years of research with the world's best MotoGP riders and Alpinestars customers, data from millions of kilometers and thousands of accidents have been analyzed to continuously improve the intelligent crash detection algorithm.
• The Tech-Air® 10 system is extremely easy to use; simply zip up the front and fasten the strap to activate the airbag system and you're ready to go. The internal strap automatically activates the system once it is fastened and secured.
• In Race Mode, the Tech-Air® 10 system is only active while driving for at least 10 seconds at a speed of approximately 60 km/h (37 mph) or more. Before this activation, or if the driver's speed continuously drops below this speed for at least 10 seconds, the system will be deactivated. This is the default behavior of the Tech-Air® 10 airbag system in Race Mode, as it is normal to have fast stop-and-go driving situations where the driver does not want to turn off the airbag. In such situations, it is safer for the driver if the system automatically deactivates the airbag to avoid unwanted airbag deployments.
• The wireless LED indicator can be attached to the rider's arm to easily check the system status. The LED indicator can also be mounted on the motorcycle, depending on the rider's preference.
• The Tech-Air® 10 system takes approximately 4 hours to charge a depleted battery using the included USB charger. A fully charged battery will provide approximately 24 hours of use. If time is limited, charging the battery for approximately 1 hour will provide approximately 6 hours of use.
• The airbag itself is breathable and equipped with air channels and a perforated back zone that improve airflow and increase driving comfort.
• The Tech-Air® 10 System can be quickly attached to the Alpinestars Tech-Air® 10 System Base Layer via easy-to-use side zippers; this allows riders to swap out the base layer between rides if desired.
• The Tech-Air® 10 System Base Layer is hand washable.
• The total weight of the Tech-Air® 10 (system and base layer) is 2,390 g for a size M.
• Tech-Air® 10 is designed for use on the track and on the street and can be used in both RACE and STREET driving modes, which feature specific AI crash detection algorithms. RACE driving mode is for use on closed circuits only and should not be used for any other type of driving.
• Bluetooth connection to a Tech-Air® app provides riders with information on airbag system operating status, battery status and MyRide trip information.
• The Tech-Air® app also allows drivers to update the system's firmware when new crash detection algorithms are released.
  

Protection:

• Designed to provide protection to a motorcyclist's shoulders, chest, back and hips, Tech-Air® 10 offers the most comprehensive coverage of any airbag currently available.
• The state-of-the-art Tech-Air® 10 wearable airbag system is equipped with an active electronic system that features 12 sensors (3 triaxial accelerometers and 1 triaxial gyroscope) and uses a crash detection algorithm that leverages AI to accurately monitor when to deploy the airbag in the event of an accident.
• The impact absorption when wearing the airbag results in a reduction in the impact force of up to 95% compared to passive protection. When deployed, the Tech-Air® 10 airbag system offers the same protection as 18 back protectors.
• The Tech-Air® 10 has CE certification Level 2 for chest and back.
• When an accident situation is detected, a protective airbag is deployed, offering the driver unrivalled protection, with a maximum inflation time of 40 ms.
• The Tech-Air® 10 airbag system offers even more comprehensive coverage due to the additional protection of the rider's hips and requires 2 argon gas inflators to fill the entire volume of the larger airbag when deployed in an accident situation. Therefore, Tech-Air® 10 does not have the dual charge concept like the Tech-Air® Race system.
  

Construction:

• There is a special area on the inner belt of the system that serves as a charging station for the wireless LED display. A fully charged LED display will work for at least 20 hours.
• The system is equipped with a USB charger and a magnetic Type-C USB cable, which allows for fast, easy and convenient charging.
• The Tech-Air® 10 system has an airbag certified for up to three inflations. However, after each deployment, when the system is received for service, the Alpinestars Tech-Air® Authorized Service Center will perform an inflation test on the airbag to verify that the airbag was not damaged during deployment. If the inflation test passes and confirms that the airbag was not damaged during deployment, the service will only include replacement of the gas inflators. If the inflation test fails, it means that the airbag was damaged during deployment and the system will go through the full service which includes replacement of the gas inflators and airbag. On the third deployment, the system will inevitably go through a full service which includes replacement of the gas inflators and airbag.

The Alpinestars TechAir10 airbag system is an absolutely new development, which of course is constantly improving with practical experience.

From my current perspective I would recommend TechAir5 or TechAir7X.
